A thousand-year-old trading and pilgrimage route crosses Scandinavia, connecting the Atlantic with the Baltic coast a region with huge reserves of renewable energy, such as biomass and electricity from wind and hydropower. The three cities Sundsvall, Östersund and Trondheim (SÖT) work in collaboration with energy companies in Sweden and Norway to create a Green Highway along this 450 km route.

The European Mobility Week (EMW) is a campaign dedicated to sustainable mobility and is the largest initiative of its kind worldwide. It runs in thousands of towns and cities throughout Europe each year between 16 and 22 September, with the Car-Free Day forming the EMW’s highlight. The overall aim is to influence urban mobility and transport in the long-term as well as to raise awareness on the environmental impacts of citizens’ travel choices.
The EMW not only attracts interest from within Europe: countries from as far afield as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Japan, South Korea or Taiwan have also started getting involved. For the past eight years, local authorities have participated with the support of national coordinators, a European-level consortium and the European Commission (DG Environment).

GREEN HIGHWAY – SCANDINAVIA’S GREEN LINK Green Highway is a green transport axle that crosses Scandinavia. The Gulf of Bothnia is connected to the Atlantic by an east-west artery, on which the forms of transport are increasingly environmentally friendly. It is now possible to refuel with electricity and other renewable fuels from coast to coast!

GREEN HIGHWAY – SCANDINAVIA’S GREEN TRANSPORT AXIS The Green Highway is linking Scandinavia together. This important east-west link passes through regions that have major reserves of renewable energy. So it is no coincidence that the “green” development in frontline transport systems is in precisely this location.

Our aim is sustainable development Energy and climate issues affect many different spheres and involve many people and activities. Here in Jämtland both the private and the public sectors collaborate with the local population on environmental issues. Our goal is to become a fossil-fuel-free region.
We also endeavour to position ourselves at the cutting edge of research and development and to take an active role in developing new technology and the innovations needed to achieve a global energy shift. We can already demonstrate a number of good examples of climate-smart transport, renewable energy sources and efficiency measures that give both environmental and economic benefits.
Welcome to Jämtland!
